Raw Kids: Transitioning Children to a Raw Food Diet
Cheryl Stoycoff
Living Spirit Press, Stockton, California, $14.00
Review by David Klein

Perhaps, like me, you recollect scenes from your early years at home and in grammar school of your friends, classmates and siblings exhibiting some of these behaviors: crankiness, troublemaking, tantrums, defiance, hyperactivity, malaise, skin picking and eating, twitching, thumb sucking, and underachieving. As well, there probably were earaches, clogged sinuses, constipation, allergies, skin rashes, fevers, sore throats, diarrhea, chicken pox, nightmares and, of course, trips to the doctor.

All of these are signs of malnutrition: over feeding on junk foods and under feeding on quality nutrients found in fresh fruits and vegetables. A well nourished child is a well poised, healthy and beautiful child--every parent's desire. If you have been frustrated in your desire to right your childrens' diet, you can now draw on Cheryl Stoycoff's practical guide for transitioning children onto a truly health-promoting diet based in raw fruits and vegetables.

Cheryl's book begins with the story of how the elimination of cooked starches immediately transformed her seven year old son's behavior, ridding him of ADD (attention deficit disorder) and dramatically boosting his school performance. From there, Raw Kids is laced with deep insight and expert recommendations for parents'

use. Cheryl covers every health and lifestyle aspect of the transition process with clarity and authority. Chapters include Child Psychology, The Outside World, Nutritional Issues, The Diet-Behavior Connection, Meal Ideas, Recipes, and others.

"You need to start where you are", Cheryl writes, "move forward and never look back." Hence, she provides cooked alternatives to the child's current diet--one step at a time, all the way to 95% or 100% raw. The key to success, she states, is "you". "Treat your child with love and respect and above all be honest with him. If you do this, you will only know success."

If you are a parent or wish to help parents with children, I'm certain that you or they will find Raw Kids to be a perfectly practical and brilliantly inspiring "how to" guide. The outcome of "Transitioning Children to a Raw Food Diet" is, inevitably, a far better life, for the entire family. Isn't it hard to resist that?
